About Me
Ux & UI. but most of all: People
Passed 30 years old. Intrinsic wish for finding out why things work the way they do — and I won’t shut up about it. Loves boxing, MMA and weightlifting. Avid music listener, and DJing is another hobby I never seem to grow out of. Oh, and I recently got into gardening — turns out getting your hands dirty is one of the best ways to get your head straight. Inspired by Mark Tichelaar’s Focus Aan/Uit, I’ve learned that letting your mind rest and recharge isn’t slacking off — it’s part of the work. Highly recommend it.
Anyways, I started out designing websites in Dreamweaver while studying to become a screen printer. Got hooked and started learning more about websites and their capabilities. In this process it became clear to me that many websites suffered from terrible interaction design. I wasn’t aware this was a whole field of study, but found out soon after. Got into Digital Media Design at Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam and loved every bit of it!
After graduating I entered The Hague University of Applied Sciences, or “De Haagse Hogeschool”. Here I learned the ways of the Light Side: UX. Why do people do things, how do they do it — or how could they do it?! So many questions, so many ways. I love it. Each new project brings new challenges and forces us to think about the best solution for both client and user.
While finishing up my scriptie (thesis) I started working at ANWB — a company dedicated to helping stranded drivers everywhere in the Netherlands, and so much more! I worked on the app that Wegenwacht technicians use to handle their important daily tasks as smoothly as possible. I also led the UX design for ANWB Theorie — a platform helping teenagers aged 16–24 learn and practice for their theory exam through video, interactive exercises and unlimited practice tests. That one’s live and I’m proud of it! Currently I’m deep into a full redesign of KAS — the Kennis Alarmcentrale Systeem — an internal platform used by ANWB’s Alarmcentrale. Big, complex, important work.
The Pareto principle states that for many outcomes, roughly 80% of consequences come from 20% of causes (80/20). In other words, a small percentage of causes have an outsized effect. This concept is important to understand because it can help you identify which initiatives to prioritize so you can make the most impactis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla.
